Gaming It Out, Sci-Fi Style
If you made it through the info-dump of Parts One and Two, congratulations. I figure there’s more than one way to connect the dots. In this vast multiverse, life is like a Schrödinger's box of chocolates. Maybe someone already ate the best ones, or maybe the best ones are yet to come. We can only guess at the likelier outcomes and prepare for the choices we might have to make.
Luckily we have a century’s worth of science fiction to help us navigate the weird timelines ahead. Indeed, I view the genre as our multidimensional two-way mirror, which affords us glimpses of The Beyond and our own reflections at the same time. Transhumanism has been a perennial theme in sci-fi — practically a founding myth — and mind control has been the Holy Grail for tyrants since civilization began.
Before I switch from sperg mode to schizo, let’s game out the scenarios based on the completion (or partial completion) of The Great Brain Work described in Part Two. Though many factors make 100% success unlikely anytime soon, I’ll start with that, i.e., assuming a structural & functional 3D brain simulator powered by quantum AI, including all the psychedelic research, leads to a revolutionary technique based on designer drugs &/or psychotronics for controlling people’s minds en masse.
The choice of rollout scenarios will depend on our wannabe masters’ timetable. Personally I suspect they are under time pressure, that they need to implement the new technology quickly to prevent a critical breakdown of control. Here I’ll refer to this as “The Treatment” as it will be sold to us as a medical miracle, like gene therapy.
1. Operation Zombie Apocalypse:
Given the aftermath of the Covid pandemic, to repeat the trick of herding the masses to get jabbed looks pretty dicey now. They’d have to raise the stakes to blockbuster sequel level. The film “Johnny Mnemonic” featured a brain affliction called Nerve Attenuation Syndrome, which turned out to be due to all the electronic gadgetry in our environment. This concept could sell if done convincingly. Or perhaps an Alien Invasion will require us all to be protected from their brain-hacking virus. I know it sounds ludicrous, but insane desperation can make ideas like this seem feasible.
One variation that might do the trick is a World War scenario: if one of the Great Powers unleashes a bioweapon that attacks the brain, the urgency of national defense could overcome even those who normally like to question authority (esp. when it’s the other party). Resistance to the Treatment would be called not just irresponsible but treasonous. The ability to arrange such a war would mean a Global Deep State exists that can coordinate the Deep States within nations that appear now to be in conflict. If this is so, it is also conceivable that an expendable patsy nation (a Great Power’s catspaw) could take the blame for deploying the bioweapon — and then take most of the swift and brutal retaliation sure to follow.
If during the pandemic you worried about the unjabbed being hauled away to quarantine camps (which actually happened in Australia), this is the scenario that would make that a reality worldwide. Among the questions worth considering:
1) What if the bioweapon is the real deal, i.e., crippling &/or lethal in most cases — whereas the Treatment might seem “super-easy, barely an inconvenience”?
2) If you had the means to emigrate, where could you go where the locals are both shunning the Treatment and ready to welcome you as a refugee?
2. The Gradual Rollout:
If the Elite have enough time to play the long game, the Treatment could be sold to us in stages.
A) The first target demographic, like the first experimental volunteers, would be those suffering from intractable, debilitating neurological ailments — those most in need of a miracle. Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, ALS, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, stroke, paralysis, etc. If the Treatment proves to be successful without major drawbacks, this could renew public confidence in mainstream medicine and pave the way for the next phase. Expect celebrity endorsements, elite charity drives, the whole nine yards.
B) The next demographic would be those with conditions for which conventional treatments are only partly effective &/or fraught with side effects: epilepsy, autism, depression, schizophrenia, migraines, cerebral palsy, neuropathic pain, etc. Further success will lead to more capital investment and normalization of the Treatment.
C) The final & largest demographic will be a cultivated market, i.e., they won’t necessarily have a neurological issue, but a need for self-improvement, to be more competitive and confident in the world. For ex., a new version of the Treatment could connect the mind to the Internet, not just for browsing, but to download knowledge & skills, Matrix-style. In “The Prisoner” Episode 6, “The General”(1967), the technique of Speed Learn was made possible by a supercomputer. Those with augmented brains would become a new elite, and fear of being left behind would drive further growth. If you’re good, they’ll give you “the feeling of freedom” — it’s all brain chemistry, right?
I love that line. Trust me, bro — I am the Science!
As you see, if the Treatment works it will have both life-saving and life-destroying potentials, a Transhumanist Yin-Yang. A healthy society would figure out how to use this power wisely, rather than reject it outright or fail to safeguard against its abuse. Alas we don’t live in such a society, nor do we have an alternative healing system fully able to address our neurological and psychological maladies. If this scenario comes to pass, hopefully we would be free to decide for ourselves whether or not to accept the Treatment, regardless of the consequences. Some neuroscientists don’t even believe in free will, now that they know how to push the buttons in your brain.
If we wind up with a genetically-tiered society similar to “Brave New World” or the film “Gattaca” (1997), those who forego the Treatment for any number of reasons (like not wanting to give the Deep State a backdoor into their brains) could be viewed by some as Luddites, or as Untermenschen riding the coattails of their genetically enhanced betters — or, if Transhumanism attains religious status, Infidels.
The more indulgent, patronizing transhumans would see the refuseniks as quaint, harmless eccentrics, i.e., the new Amish. This would imply that such yokels would be better off living apart from posthuman civilization. If I were half my age, that idea would be very tempting. I love permaculture, but I’m too old and lazy to start a farm.
If the Deep State believes neither the Pandemic Panic nor Long Game scenarios will lead to overwhelming success within their timeframe, one more option remains:
3. Covert Intervention:
Some conspiracy theorists believe the Deep State (or the Owning Class) follows a principle called “Revelation of the Method” or “Predictive Programming” as a sort of alchemical psychological tactic — as if telling us indirectly what they intend to do prepares us to accept their changes and makes them less culpable, if we can’t take the hint and push back, as conscious beings fit for self-rule must do in these situations. Alas the increasing decadence and stupidity of our age would seem to confirm the Elite’s view of us as dumb animals. What’s more, they seem bent on using their power to render us even more unfit, to become livestock that need to be herded.
In this scenario there would be no indoctrination or propaganda campaign to get us to take the jab or whatever the Treatment requires in Scenarios 1 & 2. They would devise surreptitious means to deploy the genetic, chemical and/or psychotronic elements, to brain-jack us without warning, explanation, or apology, let alone our informed consent. Science fiction does not depict this very often for good reason: if the plot is exposed and fails, there’s no going back — the Owning Class will have to flee to their private islands &/or underground cities, lest the peasants chase them down and hang them from lightposts. Or they’ll just have to annihilate us first.
The Prisoner (Patrick McGoohan) undergoing the Treatment, 1960’s style.
Here’s a somewhat rosier version of the Covert Intervention scenario: “Kingsman: The Secret Service” (2014). Indeed, why wouldn’t the Deep State protect its infrastructure (our minds) from rogue upstarts? Thank you for your service!
This section would not be complete without a Star Trek reference. One of my fave episodes of the original series, “The Return of the Archons” (1967) began as “The Perfect World,” one of three stories Gene Roddenberry wrote in 1964 and pitched to NBC for the Star Trek pilot. The other candidates were “The Cage” (also containing a mind-control theme) which the suits picked, and “The Women,” which later became the “Mudd’s Women” episode. After Star Trek got greenlighted, Roddenberry had his writers take turns bashing his story ideas into shooting scripts. Boris Sobelman ended up with the byline for the Archons teleplay.
“It’s all good, bro. Just act natural.”
On the planet Beta III, where the USS Archon was reported lost 100 years earlier, Kirk’s landing party beams down to cosplay as the local Betans, who live in a peaceful 19th C. American-style town. The locals act really chill until the Red Hour strikes, when everyone goes berserk in a “Festival” of random violence, rape and destruction. Spoilers ahead…
“Dayum! What the hell happened to Portland?!”
Kirk’s posse takes shelter from the Purge, one thing leads to another, and they find out the Betan society is under mind-control thanks to Landru, who decided 6000 years ago to play Dr. Delgado with his people. But now there’s only a supercomputer running the joint with hooded minions, the Lawgivers, who use big sticks to zap those who are “not of the Body” — absorbing them like a Borg Cult.
“The password is… Fidelio.”
As if to offend Screen Actors Guild, the computer uses Landru’s holographic likeness to talk trash to our bois. Kirk and Spock decide the Prime Directive does not apply to this zombie AI culture, so they talk the computer to death (a classic Star Trek trope).
Of course the Federation will send advisors and educators to help the newly liberated Betans to reform their civilization: you break it, you bought it. Interesting use of the word Archons, I gotta say: it seems the USS Archon’s ill-fated crew (killed by the Landru computer) became a Betan legend, so naturally they figured our Fedbois were the Archons returning like a prophesied Second Coming.
That’s not all, folks. The 2012 IDW comic book two-part retcon of “The Return of the Archons” contains this alternate timeline: When our Enterprise posse takes refuge from the riots, a woman named Ariel reveals the story of Cornelius Landru, head of Starfleet’s Advanced Research Division. Landru went to Beta III on the USS Archon to set up a Federation colony, using his new supercomputer AI for population control. When his plot was discovered, the Archon was destroyed. The amnesiac survivors invented a religion based on Landru and the Archon. Landru’s computer carried on the Great Work in his name.
Our bois take out the computer to free the Betans and save the Enterprise. Then Kirk reports to Admiral Pike about the Landru Experiment and questions him about the cover-up. The head of Starfleet is pissed at both of them for exposing the experiment — now Starfleet has to take care of the Betans! A teachable moment, for sure.
Are We Doomed Yet?
Not quite. A lot of factors could put the kibosh on the whole BRAIN Initiative effort unless there really is a Breakaway Civilization (Hail Hydra!) able to overcome the staggering technical challenges. The most obvious one is that no one knows how long it will really take to bring any alternative computer designs to the level of real-world application, even after decades of work and billions of dollars.
Quantum computing could remain in an experimental limbo indefinitely, if the room-temperature quantum chips don’t work out and the noise and error-correction issues cannot be mitigated to an acceptable degree. Neuromorphic and biological designs could even take the lead, esp. if AI can help accelerate the process.
Another factor that could make a mockery of these moonshot ambitions is the rampant fraud and corruption in academic, scientific, and medical research. It would be ironic (and a great trolling opportunity) if this vice turns out to be what saves us. However, before you start composing banger memes for the scandals to come, there could be more to this than meets the eye.
Yes, there’s no question that even the brightest boffins can succumb to the temptation to fudge the figures or concoct useless ideas to boost their careers and keep that sweet, sweet funding. The knock-on effects are obvious: when bogus and valid data coexist in the professional literature, it forces everyone to slow down and sort it out. Either that or they risk wasting even more time, energy & money pursuing dead ends.
How Much Scientific Research Is Actually Fraudulent?
What complicates the picture is the geopolitical aspect of the technological race. Assuming national rivalries are just as real as they were in the 20th C., you’d think potentially world-ending tech like genetic engineering and supercomputing would be less public and more classified than it is. Why are the Great Powers not treating this research with the secretiveness of the atomic weapons and code-breaking programs of WWII? The Game has changed in ways that make it harder to tell who exactly is lying to us and why.
Meet the NSA Spies Shaping the Future
A thought-experiment: Once again, if I were head of the Mad Science Agency, I would create a Department of Scientific Disinformation, to disseminate invalid and useless but convincing research studies through academia, scientific literature, mass media, etc., to deceive rival powers into misdirecting their resources and to manipulate public opinion to our advantage. To keep our own researchers from falling prey to our disinformation, our valid research projects will be segregated like a secret society: those who have been vetted will be privy to an insider’s list of authors to be ignored.
The DSD would also be tasked with the evaluation of foreign research studies with the help of the intelligence community, to identify fraudulent authors and protect our research assets from contamination and espionage efforts. It is assumed that both allies and adversaries are engaged in such efforts, designed to be plausibly deniable if exposed, i.e., disguised as the acts of corrupt, ambitious individuals.
Does that sound far-fetched to you? Or is it conceivable that an actual DSD has been operating for decades? What if there is actually more cooperation than competition between the Deep States of the Great Powers in cognitive warfare directed at their own populations? Oh dear…
There’s yet one more factor that could lead to the partial or total failure of the Transhumanist Mind Control project: they could simply run out of time. Intuitively my sense of how time pressure affects our would-be Masters of the Universe is that the tone of our era is quite unlike the optimistic go-go years of the Space Age, and closer to that of Nazi Germany midway through WWII.
For those few Germans not blinded by propaganda and wishful thinking, the prospect of defeat was staring them in the face by 1943. Yet their research labs kept churning out boldly innovative weapons designs, some of which were deployed in time to shock the Allies near the war’s end: jet fighters and bombers, V-1 flying bombs, V-2 ballistic missiles, Fritz X guided bombs, Type XXI U-boats, and many more. The problem was that such Wunderwaffen, though they were often more advanced than their Allied counterparts, were developed too late, when the German infrastructure and supply chains were being demolished by the Allies.
One of the less-famous Wunderwaffen: the Fritz X, the world’s first “smart bomb”.
The Nazis’ desperate need for a miracle led to a lot of “flinging spaghetti at the wall” by their version of DARPA, which dispersed their attention and resources when they needed to focus on practical technology that would make a real difference. In truth the Nazis were doomed by their strategic blunders from the very start, and that pattern never really improved. In the end their best ideas and the talent responsible for them were appropriated and developed further by the Allies.
However — even if the BRAIN Initiative projects and their concomitant computer projects fail to yield the desired results in time (like the complete 3D brain map) and the transhumanist Treatment must be scaled back, we could still see dramatic changes from just the limited successes within reach using our current technology:
1) Developing and testing psychedelic drugs and their non-psychedelic derivatives, as well as their psychotronic equivalents, and—
2) Learning to activate brain circuitry to trigger dissociative states, and to stimulate neuroplasticity, by designer drugs and psychotronics, either singly or in combination.
Regardless of whether or not a structural & functional brain map is achievable in our lifetimes — and not everyone in the field believes this map should even be our priority — the new wave of psychedelic research cannot be dismissed as vaporware, nor can we assume the Deep State(s) won’t try to exploit its mind-control potential, either against adversary powers or individuals whose vital interests conflict with theirs.
Mapping Out New Dimensions Through DMTx Technology
Please don’t get the idea that I oppose using psychedelic drugs or otherwise exploring altered states, including dissociation. True freedom requires the acceptance of risk. My favorite analogy is swimming in the ocean. For those who are properly prepared, it can be one of life’s exalting experiences, a full-body reunion with primordial nature, and just plain fun. But the ocean can also kill you, even if you know what you’re doing. Remember Steve Irwin.
I believe the reason all attempts to seize the Unholy Grail of Mind Control will fail in the end is because the people trying to do it cannot or will not grasp the absurdity of materialism and the need for control itself. Whatever powers they may gain, down to the level of neurons, of molecules, of subatomic particles, the true understanding of consciousness and reality will elude them. Like the Empire building and rebuilding ever-greater Death Stars, they will fail as many times as it takes. (le sigh)
Here I want to be more careful about how I speculate, because unlike the boffins and minions doing the Empire’s donkey work, my belief in a spiritual realm exists in a particular way, shaped and informed over the past half-century by chance, by choice, and by what some call gnosis. Being human makes us part of a vast Multidimensional Ecosystem of Consciousness, as well as a Hierarchy of Creators. Our forays into the waters of altered states, esp. if guided by the Psychos in Charge, could serve purposes beyond the superficial goal of turning us into docile beasts on a Global Animal Farm. Never turn your back on the ocean.
This concludes my intelligence briefing. My future posts will be written with a view towards expanding our reality map into higher dimensions. As always I hope you find this journey a worthwhile use of your time. Thank you.
